Possibly, but only with planning. Our network has no officers based in Shetland and no work there to date, so any cover would mean officers travelling from the Scottish mainland, arranged on request and confirmed by the control room.
Shetland is the most northerly part of the UK, an island group lying far north of the Scottish mainland. Lerwick is the main town and port, with Scalloway on the west side, Brae in the north mainland and the airport at Sumburgh in the south. The economy rests on fishing, aquaculture, the oil and gas terminal at Sullom Voe, renewable energy construction, public services and tourism, including cruise ship visits to Lerwick in summer. Up Helly Aa in Lerwick each January is the islands' best-known event. Inter-island ferries connect the smaller islands, and the mainland is reached by overnight ferry to Aberdeen or by air, both of which can be disrupted by weather.
We would rather be clear than oversell: our network has no officers living in Shetland and has not provided cover there. Any booking would involve officers travelling from the mainland by ferry or flight, with accommodation needed for the duration, and weather can delay both. That makes short-notice call-outs unrealistic, and it means cost and logistics have to be agreed before anything is confirmed. Where cover can be arranged, for example a planned construction phase or a fixed-date event, officers hold the SIA licence their role requires, are screened to BS 7858, and report through the same client app with GPS clock-in, check-calls and incident photos.
There is no local team in Shetland, so every request is handled individually by the control room. Officers from our partner network would travel from the mainland, most likely via Aberdeen, then on by road within the islands. Lerwick is the natural base, with Scalloway a short drive away and sites around Brae or near Sumburgh further out. Locations on the North Isles involve inter-island ferries and need additional planning. The control room will set out who could travel, when, and what accommodation and travel arrangements would be needed before you commit.
