Cover can be arranged in the CA area, but we have few officers living here, so SIA-licensed guards are usually sourced from the wider network and availability is confirmed by our control room when you book.
The CA area covers north and west Cumbria: Carlisle and the border country around Longtown and Brampton, Penrith on the M6 and A66, the northern Lake District around Keswick and Cockermouth, and the west coast towns of Workington, Whitehaven, Maryport, Egremont and Silloth. Carlisle is a regional hub for distribution, food production and retail, with the M6 carrying freight north into Scotland. The west coast has a strong industrial and energy-sector supply chain, while the fells and lakes bring tourism, farming and seasonal businesses. Weather on the A66 over Stainmore and on the fell roads can also affect travel times in winter.
We want to be straightforward about coverage. Fewer than five officers in our network live in this area, and we have no completed work here yet. That does not mean we cannot help, but it does mean cover is usually arranged with officers travelling from neighbouring areas, and distances in Cumbria are long. The control room checks availability and travel time for every booking and will tell you if a shift cannot be staffed reliably. For remote sites, mobile patrols or keyholding may be more realistic than a full-time guard.
Requests for Carlisle, Penrith, Workington, Whitehaven, Cockermouth or Keswick are passed to the control room, which looks for officers across our wider network, including neighbouring Lancaster, Darlington and Newcastle. Because travel times are significant, we need as much notice as possible, and same-day cover is unlikely in most of the area. Carlisle and Penrith, being on the M6, are the most practical places to staff. If we cannot cover a shift reliably, the control room will tell you before you commit.
