Yes, through our wider network. Fewer than five officers in our network live in the KA area, so cover across Ayrshire is usually arranged with officers from Glasgow and Lanarkshire, and the control room confirms availability when you book.
Ayrshire combines industrial towns, a busy coastline and a large rural hinterland. Kilmarnock is the main town in the east, with retail, manufacturing and food production, and the M77 brings it within easy reach of Glasgow. Irvine, a former new town, has extensive industrial estates and business parks. Prestwick has an airport and an aerospace engineering cluster, while Ayr is the county's biggest town, with a racecourse, retail centre and seafront. Up the coast, Troon, Ardrossan and Largs have harbours and ferry links to Arran and Cumbrae, and down the coast Girvan and Maybole sit in farming country. Inland, Cumnock and the Irvine Valley towns of Galston, Newmilns and Darvel have older industrial heritage.
Because the local pool is small, most KA-area shifts are staffed by officers travelling from Glasgow, Paisley and Lanarkshire. The motorway links make that straightforward for Kilmarnock, Irvine and Ayr, and our control room can usually build a rota for planned work with a little notice. The southern and inland parts of the county are slower to reach, and island work on Arran or Cumbrae depends on ferry timings, so those requests are looked at one by one. Officers attending any Ayrshire site carry the appropriate SIA licence, are screened to BS 7858, and log their shift through the client app with GPS clock-in and photo-backed incident reporting.
Kilmarnock, Irvine and Kilwinning are the most straightforward places to cover, being close to the M77 and A71 routes from Glasgow. Ayr, Prestwick and Troon are reached down the A77, and Saltcoats, Stevenston and Ardrossan along the A78 coast road. Girvan and Maybole in the south, and Cumnock inland, take longer. Millport, on Great Cumbrae, needs a ferry from Largs. The control room confirms the officer and their travel plan with you before each booking.
