Harrogate is best known as a spa town and a conference and exhibition destination, and that shapes the kind of security it needs. Large trade shows and conferences bring short, intense bursts of activity, with exhibitors' stock and equipment sitting in halls and car parks overnight. The Great Yorkshire Showground on the edge of town hosts agricultural shows and other events across the year. Elsewhere, the area is a mix of independent retail, hotels, and well-kept residential streets, with Knaresborough and Ripon offering historic town centres and visitor trade. North-west of Harrogate, Pateley Bridge and Nidderdale are rural, with farms, holiday lets and small businesses spread over a wide area, and Masham sits on the edge of the Dales.
We will be straightforward: fewer than five officers in our network are based in the HG postcodes. That does not stop us arranging cover, but it does mean most shifts are filled by officers travelling in from the wider Yorkshire network, which works best with some notice. For event build-up and break-down, or a construction site on the edge of Harrogate, that is rarely a problem. For a remote farm or a holiday property up the dale, we will be honest about what is realistic. Whoever attends works to the same standard: SIA-licensed, screened to BS 7858, clocking in by GPS and reporting through the client app.
