The WN postcode is centred on Wigan and stretches east to Leigh and west to Skelmersdale in West Lancashire, taking in towns such as Standish, Hindley and Ashton-in-Makerfield along the way. Once dominated by coal and cotton, the area now relies on manufacturing, food production and distribution, with the M6 and M58 giving fast access to the rest of the North West. Skelmersdale, built as a new town, has large industrial estates. Wigan's town centre is being regenerated, including the area around Wigan Pier, and housebuilding continues on former industrial land across the borough. Wigan is also known for the stadium it shares between rugby league and football, which brings event-day crowds.
We want to be clear that our network has very few officers living in WN and has not yet completed work in the area. Cover is arranged from the wider network, usually from neighbouring Bolton, Warrington, Manchester or Liverpool, all close by on the M6, M58 and M61. For planned shifts at warehouses, factories or construction sites that is usually workable, and the control room confirms the officer before you commit. Officers hold the SIA licence their role requires and are screened to BS 7858, and you can follow each shift through the client app, with GPS clock-in, welfare check-calls and photo incident reports.
The control room arranges WN cover from our wider North West network rather than a local team. Wigan is the easiest location to staff because of its M6 junctions, with Standish, Hindley and Ashton-in-Makerfield close by. Leigh, on the eastern side, is often reached by officers from the Manchester and Bolton direction, while Skelmersdale is a short run along the M58 for officers based in Merseyside. Booking ahead gives the best chance of a consistent officer, and confirmed details appear in the client app before the shift.
