Yes, on a planned basis. Fewer than five officers in our partner network live in the SY area, so shifts are staffed from neighbouring areas such as Telford and Wolverhampton, with availability confirmed by the 24/7 control room. The network already covers a site here.
SY is a large and mostly rural postcode, stretching from Shrewsbury and the Shropshire market towns west across the border into Powys and Ceredigion, all the way to Aberystwyth on Cardigan Bay. Shrewsbury is the county town, with retail, offices and a hospital. Oswestry, Whitchurch, Wem and Ellesmere sit in farming country in north Shropshire, while Ludlow, Church Stretton, Craven Arms and Bishop's Castle lie to the south. In Wales, Welshpool, Montgomery, Llanidloes and Machynlleth serve agricultural communities, and Aberystwyth has a university and a seafront. The A5, A483 and A49 are the main routes in.
Our network has covered work in the area, but very few officers live here, and distances are long. Most cover comes from Telford, Wolverhampton, Hereford or Wrexham-side officers, which is practical for Shrewsbury and the eastern towns but much harder for Aberystwyth, Machynlleth or Tregaron. We would rather say that clearly than promise cover we cannot staff. Planned, recurring shifts give the best results, and once confirmed, each shift is tracked in the client app with GPS clock-in, welfare check-calls and a live occurrence log, with photo incident reports available as soon as they are filed.
Shrewsbury is the most practical place to staff, reached by officers travelling from Telford along the A5. Oswestry and Welshpool are covered along the A5 and A483, Whitchurch and Wem from the north, and Ludlow and Church Stretton along the A49 from the Hereford side. Further west, Llanidloes, Machynlleth and Aberystwyth involve long journeys on rural roads, so cover there is arranged case by case. The control room confirms travel, the officer and start time before accepting any booking.
